Blockchains provide a safe way to store and transmit data because they are independent and permanent. Each link in the chain contains its own information, and every link is important to the entire system. As a result, the network is managed by the people directly involved in distributing and maintaining the data, rather than by a third party. Blockchain technology is used by pharmaceutical companies to store and share data from electronic medical records and clinical trials. It is also applied in mobile health applications and monitoring tools, and can be used for the management of insurance information. At present, there is limited research on blockchain technology in healthcare, though major changes are expected in the near future. The distributed ledger structure of blockchain improves data security and enables faster access to medical information, showing that, unlike traditional approaches, individuals are responsible for managing their own healthcare.
